Ancient Greek art has been a reference point and creative influence for art throughout the centuries . By juxtaposing images of ancient statues with corresponding contemporary nudes inn a series of diptychs William Stewart sets up a visual dialogue across millennia – a dialogue that develops its own intriguing dynamics.

Spatial Concept

‘Spatial Concept' is a series of black and white photographs inspired by Lucio Fontana’s single cut paintings on monochrome canvases titled, ‘Concetto Spaziale, Attesa’ (1964–1965) and Barnett Newman’s ‘Onement I’ (1948) The series explores the transformative power of the vertical line as both a structural and symbolic element – hand printed as gelatin-silver prints.
