Iggy Smalls
Iggy Small’s photos appear to have a deceptively documentary character. But look closer and you’re not so sure anymore. Do the photos reflect poignant moments from ordinary everyday life or does the documentary character mask an element of fiction? There it is again, the perennial question whether the photographic medium “displays” or “deceives” – shows or withholds the truth. This inherent ambivalence of the medium is turned into a subtle creative device in Iggy Smalls’ images. ‘Concepts of truth, fiction and how environments influence feelings of identity are recurrent themes in my image based work.’
Born into a Norwegian family of photographers Iggy Small picked up her first camera around the age of 9. Since graduating from Ringling College of Art & Design in 2015 she has already attracted significant international interest. Her work has been widely published and exhibited internationally.
